ManageBac

Upon returning to school, there was a Personal Project update that required students to redo their Proposal Form on a new website that will be for everything school and IB, so I registered and have updated my Proposal Form. Hopefully, Mrs. Lajoie will accept the proposal again so I don't have to worry about it.

Reviewing Personal Project Guidebook

Since I'm back in school, I have re read and checked what deadlines I have to meet during the semester. I have to pick a mentor, but it currently isn't up yet. I read that I have to make a detailed criteria/rubric for my project, so I'll be going further into my "My Goals and Motivations" to include the criteria and rubric.
With Kwyjibo, I am 2/3 done with the trick. I find that as I go on, it really does get harder and more complicated. Kwyjibo is more like a series of tricks combined than one trick, so I can see why it gets harder. I just need to get the last "hop" done to complete the trick.

Three more Tricks Done

After working on Gerbil a bit more, I tidied up Eli Hops and finished Boingy Boingy as well. Since it was still early today (and I had nothing important to do), I started on the next trick, which is called Gyroscopic Flop. I found out that it was one of the easiest unresponsive tricks, and I got it on my first try. I can do it every time, and I am proud that I got so many tricks done today. The next trick is called Kwijibo, and I hope it is not as hard as it sounds! Also, here is a picture of me doing Gyroscopic Flop:

Working on Eli Hops/Boingy Boingy

As I resume working on my trick ladder after the performance, I am practicing Gerbil as well as mastering Eli Hops and Boingy Boingy. Both are moderate in terms of difficulty to learn but it gets easier once you get into the rhythm, especially for Boingy Boingy. Once I get into the rhythm and way you move your hands to perform the trick, it gets much easier. The Gerbil I am still figuring out, but I'm making solid progress on making it smoother.

They like me, they really like me!

Okay, so after soccer practice yesterday I did another performance. This time, it was much better. I got a lot of tricks out, and even taught some kids a few tricks. There were about 8 kids there, and I got 7 kids to mark the survey that I brought. All of them chose the highest circle in the survey, and I was pretty happy! Here is a picture of the survey.

Even if they did not do the survey, I think that I did pretty good. I achieved my goals of:
  1. Performing tricks for a group of kids
  2. Giving them to chance to try and learn a few tricks
  3. Doing both of the above in a casual way, and not too meticulous and strict
  4. Having the group give feedback, which they said it was very good
Another bonus is that 2 or 3 of the boys said that they wanted to learn more, and "Where did you get that?"/"How much did it cost?". It would be great to get them into yoyoing, as it is really fun and rewarding to learn. I will upload a video of my performance later today.

Presentation Results

So today, I had less time to do my performance than I thought, so it was kind of hasty and uncoordinated, and it was "new". The kids were really excited to see the yoyos, and the most frequently asked question was: "Can I try?" I let them try a little bit and taught them how to throw and get it back up, but the performance part was not what I expected. I should have let the Summer Camp leaders know ahead of schedule, so that was also my fault.
I can also try to perform tomorrow when some of the refugee kids attend my brother and I's soccer club training. I have a video up from today but I have to upload it up. Hopefully, if I perform tomorrow it will be better and more coordinated. (I did not get the evaluation forms out either). Pretty disappointed with myself, but I will look ahead.

Music?

The night before my presentation, I am wondering if I should add music to go with my presentation. This thought comes from one of my siblings, who said: "If there's no music, would it be awkward?". I took this into consideration, and I'm trying to see if music would help smoothen my performance. I am doing my final practices/preparations before the big day. I'm excited, because this will be my first yoyo performance (hopefully the first of many to come!), and I am also excited to see how far I've progressed. This will be filmed and I will hand out the surveys after I perform. This will also be done during the time that my sister will be doing a little performance of her own for the younger kids.
